FAQ's

SUNSCREEN

ARE HIGHER SPF SUNSCREENS BETTER?

You may be confused when shopping for an SPF, seeing numbers such as 15, 30, 50, 70. SPF Sun Protection factor is a measurement of ultraviolet B (UVB) Protection.

  • SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB
  • SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB
  • SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB

therefore, a higher SPF does not significantly increase your protection; as long as you are using an SPF of at least 30 daily.

Ensure to choose a sunscreen which says Broad Spetrum; it covers both UVB (the burning rays) and UVA (the aging rays).

With prolonged sun exposure, it is important to re-apply every 2 hours.

ANCE PRONE SKIN

GENERAL TIPS TO PREVENT ANCE?

  • Change your pillowcases every other day: Pillowcases can house dirt and oil which can clog pores.
  • Clean your cellphone case every week: We rest our face on the cellphones daily and this can lead to breakout n Use the technology to set a reminder to clean weekly.
  • Wash make up brushes weekly: You can use your facial wash to clean the brushes.
  • Keep your hands off your face: Dirt and bacteria from the hands can lead to more pimples.
  • Wash off make up face as often as possible: Some make up can be comedogenic and can worsen acne.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL (LHR)?

Laser Hair Removal is a non- invasive laser treatment designed to remove unwanted hair from all parts of the body.

The laser device works by emitting pulses of light energy that penetrate the skin and destroy hair follicles while the device’s handpiece cools the surrounding skin.

You may feel a slight burning, stinging or pinching sensation during the procedure. It is often described as a rubber band snapping the skin.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO PREPARE FOR THE PROCEDURE?

Because the laser requires the hair follicle to work effectively, it is important not to wax, tweeze, have electrolysis procedures or pluck hair for 2-4 weeks prior to the procedure, but you can shave the area.

HOW FAST DOES LHR WORK?

It generally takes 10 to 21 days after the procedure for the treated hair to fall out.

Treatment of dark course hair generally achieves the best results while removal of light fine hair generally requires additional treatment which may or may not be successful.

LHR procedure generally involves a series of treatment.

Ideal (light skin/dark hair) candidates can usually achieve 65-90% reduction with a series of 6 treatments.

DOES THE HAIR EVER GROW BACK?

Lasers can remove hair for anywhere from several months to years.

Results vary from person to person.  With the new technology 80-90% hair reduction is possible.

CHEMICAL PEELS

WHAT ARE CHEMICAL/SKIN PEELS?

Chemical peel is an exfoliation process which controls injury to the skin resulting in new skin and improved appearanceand texture.

WHAT ARE CHEMICAL PEELS USED FOR?

Chemical Peels are used for the treatment of photo-aging (from sun damage), wrinkles, scarring, and discoloration (including melasma, freckles and age spots).

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO PREPARE FOR THE PROCEDURE?

  • If you are prone to getting sores from the herpes virus, get started on your prescription medicine prior to performing a peel. Acid can cause a breakout to happen if you aren’t prepared ahead of time.
  • Stop using your Retinol or Acid Serum 2-3 days prior to your peel.
  • Stop using any abrasive scrubs or cleansers with beads a day or two before your peel and NEVER exfoliate immediately prior to a chemical peel. The reasoning behind this is that when you manually exfoliate your skin it is uneven. You will scrub harder on certain areas and the skin won’t be even. That is exactly why we use either the Acid Serum or Retinoids to even the skin instead.
  • Wait at least 24 hours to perform a peel if you have waxed or shaved that area. If there are open areas or bleeding – then prolong your wait until the skin is healed.

HOW MANY PEELS WILL I NEED?

Generally chemical peels are done once every 2-3 weeks, until the desired results are achieved. Maintenance peels can then be performed every 4-6 weeks, depending on skin concern

MICRONEEDLING

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a skin treatment procedure that involves an electric skin-needling device.

A small pen with 12 tiny needles is used to create tiny wounds in the skin. The speed and adjustability of the needles allows for more effective piercing and absorption of skin products.

It is used to treat/improve mild to moderate acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, skin texture and pore size, and stretch marks.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING WITH PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP OR VAMPIRE FACIAL)?

Microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP or Vampire Facial) is an extraction of your own blood that contains platelets. When PRP is placed back into the skin, it initiates a localized growth cell response.

WHAT IS WITH MICRONEEDLING RADIOFREQUENCY (RF)?

Devices use specially insulated needles that deliver high-intensity radio frequency energy into the targeted tissue once the needles have broken through the skin. The RF energy is delivered via small needles into the dermis, and heats the underlying layers of skin, causing constriction and tightening of the skin, as well as the stimulation of collagen and elastin production. In addition to the benefits seen with the micro-injury provided by the traditional microneedles, RF micro-needling also enhances skin tightening and scar reduction, and helps the skin become firmer, thicker and more youthful looking.

WHAT IS THE DOWN TIME AFTER MICRONEEDLING?

Inflammation of the skin is very temporary and reduces greatly within a few hours. It may remain slightly pink for up to 48 hours after treatment.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING?

It is known to:-

  • Improve skin text texture
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles
  • Regenerate tissue
  • Improve the appearance of scars
  • Reduce the size of pores
  • Reduce the appearance of stretch marks
  • Improve topical cream effectiveness and penetration and stimulates blood circulation and collagen production
  • It is cost-effective relative to other surfacing procedures
  • It works on all skin types; and it can treat the scalp, face, and body, including skin around the eyes, mouth, and neck.

ARE THERE ANY RISKS/COMPLICATIONS, IF SO, HOW CAN I AVOID SUCH?

  • Pain. The stinging or burning sensation from the procedure can produce a moderate amount of discomfort.  An anesthetic cream, oral and injectable pain relievers and anti-anxiety medications will typically be used to minimize discomfort.
  • Redness: redness resembling a sunburn can occur in treated area.  The redness will typically subside in 1 to 7 days, but could last longer.
  • Swelling: Treatment may cause swelling which subsides in 1 to 7 days and can be minimized with application of cool water compresses.
  • Skin darkening: Darkening of the skin rarely occurs in the treated areas and will usually fade within 1 to 6 months.  This reaction is more common when treated areas are exposed to the sun.  It is extremely important to protect the treated area from sun exposure with a hat and sunscreen for 6 weeks after treatment and carefully adhere to all post-treatment instructions.
  • Blisters or scabs: Blistering is uncommon but can develop with treatment.  Blisters will go away within 2 to 5 days and may be followed by a scab.  The scab will disappear during the natural wound healing process of the skin.  During this time, the area should not be manipulated or picked, which can lead to scarring.
  • Infection: Swelling, crusting, pain, or fever could indicate an infection or reactivation of cold sores or fever blisters.  This may require use of topical or oral antibiotics and/or antiviral agents.
  • Acneiform eruptions: Breakouts from acne have been reported to occur after treatment with laser resurfacing.  If this occurs, topical or oral antibiotics may be required.
  • Scarring: There is a risk of skin scarring, including abnormal raised and/or depressed scars with any resurfacing procedure.  Careful adherence to all advised postoperative instructions will help reduce the possibility of this occurrence.
  • Lesion persistence or failure to respond: Some skin conditions may not improve or go away completely despite the best efforts made by the doctor.  No guarantees can be made regarding any individual’s response to treatment.
  • Additional side effects: There are risks associated with any procedure.  Since it is impossible to state every risk or complication that may occur as a result of treatment, the possible risks and complications listed here may be incomplete.  There may be risks or complications associated with this treatment that are not yet reported in the literature.
